These machines are the king of the manufacturing hill when it comes to large-scale production needs.  Although they do require a bit of an upfront investment of time for set up, once they are up and running only a single operator is require for the monitoring of several machines

Grinders

There are three basic types of cylindrical grinder:  OD grinders, ID grinders, and centerless grinders.. In an OD grinder, the our diameter of the work piece is ground, held on at one or both ends between centers or chucked and rotated against a grinding wheel.  By contrast, an ID grinder grinds the inside diameter of a piece.  Finally, with a centerless grinder (a type of OD grinder) the piece is held against the wheel by a secondary, smaller wheel that turns at a slower RPM. 

A surface grinder is used to create precision ground surfaces.  The typical precision rate of these machines is variable depending on the machine itself and on the way in which it is used, but a generally  ± 0.002 mm (+/- 0.0001") can be expected.  Once set up is complete, operation of a surface grinder requires very little intervention from the operator.

Jig Grinders are generally used for grinding complex shapes, jobs in which extreme accuracy and finish are crucial. 

Jig Borers were invented at the conclusion of the First World War, with the purpose of making easier the job of locating hole centers.  It is a type of specialized boring mill.
