The Haas VF-2 has a powerful 7,500 RPM, oil cooled spindle that is optionally driven by either a two seed geared head or a direct drive spindle with a 20 HP motor. When used with a geared head it produces a generous 160 ft-lbs of torque. The rugged two speed geared head provides a much more efficient method of transmitting power than V-belt designs used on other VMCs. With gears, higher reduction ratios are achieved due to their constant engagement, no slip nature. Efficiency is so high that the VF2’s produce their greatest torque at very low speeds. Maximum torque is delivered at just 500 RPM. The VF-2 is built around a wide base, cast-iron rigid frame.
The fast 32 bit, 68030 processor provides execution of 400 blocks per second and 800 optional. Whether you’re operating Fanuc, Yasnac or other EIA type programs the Haas controls can be loaded and run with little or no program modifications. Operational simplicity extends to one button tool length measurement, dry run graphics, background program editing, DNC link and more. There’s even an on-line help menus that solves trigonometry, circular and speed/feed calculations. The Haas control is one of the easiest to use in the industry. Each VF2 has a 20 position automatic tool changer that is fully enclosed that eliminates the possibility of contamination from chips. The ATC is bi-directional so when changing tools the shortest and fastest path to the next tool is automatically selected.
There is a built-in auger style conveyor that channels chips down the enclosed path and out the exhaust tube. This system provides the utmost in productivity. Its load sensing capabilities detect any overload condition and initiates a clearing cycle. By alternating between forward and reverse, obstructions are cleared with no intervention by the machine operator.
